E36 Door Lock Actuator Replacement

Below the handle two small plastic plugs cover two screws.

E36 door lock actuator replacement. Lazy or dead door lock rod. Leave the wiring harness connected but clip open the wire tie holding the wiring to the door. All 4 doors use this part. Time to replace your door actuator.

Door handle screw cover. The door panels on the e36 are not hard to remove you just need to pop off two screw covers behind the inside handle and remove the screws they covered with t20 torx driver. On this convertible there s an additional hidden screw on the passenger side door handle underneath a small plastic plug. Then just push the old actuator straight up and off the lock.

Slide the outer door handle trim piece toward the front of the car to remove it b. Shown here is the sequence for removing the door panel. Each screw was a different length which i didn t notice until i was going to re install them. The location and quantity of screws varied slightly over the years.
